Saltwater Social, 128 Bay Avenue, Highlands, NJ

On Monday, August 19th at 2:00pm, members of the Council and representatives from the Highlands Business Partnership will cut the ribbon for another new business, Saltwater Social, located at 128 Bay Avenue, Highlands.

The proprietors of Saltwater Social are Head Chef Mike Metzner, and his brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Sherilyn Metzner. Mike graduated from Johnson and Wales University, Providence, Rhode Island in 2005. He began his culinary career training and working alongside renowned Chefs Nicholas Herrera, David Santos and Craig Shelton. Mike most recently owned and operated Big Mike’s Little Red Store in Navesink, from 2018 – 2023. It was always a dream of his to own a restaurant/bar, and when the opportunity arose, he jumped at the chance. Highlands was a perfect fit, as Mike and Nick have fond memories of fishing with their father in Highlands when they were growing up. Highlands has always been a special place for them.

Saltwater Social is an inviting restaurant, with a nautical theme. The menu consists of a wide range of fare, from soups and salads, to sandwiches, dinner entrees, a kids menu, and delicious desserts. They have a huge selection of sharable plates, with a great cocktail and local craft beer menu. Downstairs is a traditional bar with lots of tv’s to watch your favorite sporting events, while the loft upstairs offers a more intimate setting. Saltwater Social also does catering onsite and offsite, they have a catering menu and even offer a custom boutique menu, where Mike will sit down with the customer and create something truly special and unique to fit their needs. They cater in-home parties, and at various venues. The restaurant is available for private parties of up to 80 people.
